I'm building this because the founder I know is not the founder I read about.

I have spent a decade in and around small companies. I have started two, helped close one, watched friends sell theirs and friends bury theirs. The people I know who do this work are quieter than the internet suggests. They are more uncertain, more thoughtful, more often awake at four in the morning than at four on a stage.

The publications written for them, by and large, are not written for them. They are written for an idea of them - a louder, more confident, more linear person who is always about to disrupt something. I have never met that person. I do not believe they exist.

This is a small attempt at a correction. A library of long-form pieces about the actual texture of building things. Not how to. Not five steps. Not the best stack for your seed round. Just - what it was like. What the Tuesday felt like. What the letter to the team said. What was on the desk when the lamp was finally turned off.

We publish slowly. Most pieces take two months from first conversation to final draft. We pay our contributors. We do not run advertising and we have no plans to. The newsletter is free and will remain so.
